New collage and more wearables

I spent an enjoyable weekend creating wearable art from some of my drawings and paintings and I have to say it is great fun. I enjoy making cards and prints and other products that I sell at The Collective Store, but the jewellery is a bit different for me and it changes the way you see your work. I can see me extending and changing the designs and trying new methods and ideas, especially when I get the new shipment of supplies from the US. I wish they would hurry up and I can't wait to launch them at the Wynnum up-late event on the 16th of June.

I also spent time working on a new collage. I wanted to continue to explore some of the ideas that I started with in the last one, and while I don't think it is as successful as the first one, I am still relatively happy with the result, and will have it on the wall for a week or two before I put the finishing touches on it. I find that by waiting and spending time looking at a work before the final finishing off you get a good idea of what it needs. I have also hung them together on the wall so I can look at them and how they relate, and though I still like the bottom collage more, I am starting to like the new one more. You get so caught up during the process of painting, and a bit of time and perspective really helps. I am sure it will all find itself over the next week or so, and I just need to be patient and let them develop. The other thing I need to do is go and get some proper scans... there just never seems enough time to chase them up though. I will add it to the ever expanding list of things to do. Top of the list though is some painting today so I will get to it.

A Fun New Project... Or Two

I have spent a fun weekend playing with my artwork and glasstiles, and these necklaces, and one rather dodgy ring are the result of that play. I have my friend and fellow painter, VonnyK to thank for introducing me to the method and I am really excited about the possibilities. I am thinking the tulips that I just completed would apply really well to a long rectangular necklace because it has such a strong colour palette and shape, and have ordered some more supplies to see how it all turns out. I also made some new gift tags and cards to drop down to The Collective Store this week.
Today I am attacking my Monthly Painters Challenge Topic. I am also planning on working out how to add links to the page and to the other participant's blogs... but me and technology aren't always on speaking terms so I am including a photo today in case it just doesn't work out!!

Evolution of a studio

I have been quiet on the blog for a good reason. Two very exciting things have been happening. The first is a revamp of the studio into a new and more practical space. I love love love the new configuration and it is a pleasure to walk in every day and get to work, not to mention so much easier on the back working at a bench rather than a desk. Maybe it is all the years teaching and having students at benches, but it feels "right" to be able to step away easily and assess your work so quickly and easily. The room is also so much bigger with all the extra room, and I no longer trip over the dog to get to the printer which is of course a huge advantage. I am so excited about being able to get in and create in such a comfortable, inspiring space. Environment plays such an important role in the creative process, and even with a house full of flu I have still managed to get a lot of work done on a drawing based on the tulips I got for Mother's day, so it is working a treat already. The only down side is that now it is so inviting that Both Phoebe and Matt are joining me in there at every opportunity, so along with the dog, it has become a bit of a family space, but I am sure that will wear off soon.

The second very motivating thing which has happened is an invitation to join the Monthly Painters Challenge. This is a group set up by the fabulous Tracey Potter and has six members and we will all be attacking a theme each month and seeing what we create. We already have our first topic and I have had all sorts of ideas buzzing around to tackle it. You can find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Monthly-Painters-Challenge/216742418344341?sk=info if you want to follow us, or if you want to join us you can find the details in the info section of the page. Off to attack the first topic now. Happy creating all!
